[Jul 25, 2024] 5G-Enabled Drone Delivery Project in Orkney Launched by Skyports Consortium

A new consortium led by Skyports Drone Services and funded by the UK Space Agency has launched the CROFT project to explore 5G-enabled drone deliveries for remote island communities in Orkney, Scotland. The 22-month initiative aims to develop 'Sky5,' a 5G-powered drone service capable of low-latency, high-density communication essential for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) flights. By integrating satellite and 5G cellular connectivity, the project will establish a scalable and sustainable logistics model for hard-to-reach rural environments.
